Es ist eine aufregende Geschichte mit unglaublichen Höhen und fürchterlichen Tiefen, die eines der wichtigsten und einflussreichsten Labels aller Zeiten zu erzählen hat. Alles begann 1959 in dem Armenviertel Soulsville U.S.A. in Memphis / Tennessee, als der weiße Banker und Country-Geiger Jim Stewart zusammen mit seiner Schwester Estelle Axton Songs von Hillibilly-Bands in einer Garage aufnahmen. Sie zogen in das alte Capitol-Kino um und arbeiteten in Zeiten der Rassentrennung vermehrt mit schwarzen Musikern.
