VA - Putumayo Presents Acoustic America (2013) FLAC

Putumayo World Music has a great job. They get to wade knee deep in organic music and artists from varied spots around the globe. Not only do they get to enjoy feeling their own hairs rise from the songs, but Putumayo gets to spread around the smiles on compilations that theme without bordering the music. It is a job the company has taken on for the past two decades of curating music from our world and educating in a way that no information was pushed on listeners, any teachings were requested and welcome.

Acoustic America contains artists from Grammy award winner Doc Watson to San Francisco busking troubadour Forest Sun. What draws the artists together in theme on the album is the manner in which they honor the traditions of the music they play. Jim Kweskin Band have made a life’s work of cultivating and expanding ragtime jazz to the point where the band and the genre are nearly one. Sonny Terry and Brownie McGee showcase their Piedmont Blues style with harmonica and guitar and Eden Brent lays her trademark stomp and boogie aside for a tender goodbye that will leave the memories as love leaves in “Goodnight Moon”. Acoustic America name drops with “Lodi” (Jeffrey Foucault) and “Shenandoah” (Buck Howdy). The album celebrates the American wanderlust with the folk powerhouse trio, Red Horse (Eliza Gilykson, John Gorka and Lucy Kaplansky) performing “Wayfaring Stranger” as Doc Watson maintains his high perch in “Sitting on Top of the World” and New Orleans blues journeyman Luke Winslow-King represents the music the Mississippi delta shares with the Putumayo sound and style pot luck of Acoustic America. - See more at: //www.thealternateroot.com/rack-1/228-new-release-unracked/1668-putumayo-presents-acoustic-america#sthash.bsMfC0IX.dpuf
