It was initially released as the debut buzz single from the album in 15 February 2013. “Lay Me Down” is scheduled to impact Top 40 mainstream radio on 10 February 2015, and serves as the follow-up to his latest single “Like I Can“.

Smith performed the track live for the first time during Saturday Night Live on 29 March 2014. The single will be released on digital retailers on 15 March 2015. The music video directed by Ryan Hope was premiered on Vevo on 5 February 2015.

A new version of the single including the guest vocals of American singer-songwriter and The Academy Award winner John Legend released on 9 March 2015.

The same day Smith debuted a promotional “Red Nose Day 2015” music video for this new version with Legend. It was directed by Natalie Johns.

He has done the same formula in his previous releases, Mary J. Blige in smash hit “Stay With Me“, and A$AP Rocky on “I’m Not the Only One“.
