The original X5 team all had backgrounds in music, as producers/musicians/entrepreneurs. But no one had worked on a record company. Possibly a key reason why the successful case project ended up being in a field that one hardly associates with quick music industry buck classical music. One of the very first X5 compilations, The 50 Most Essential Pieces of Classical Music climbed high on both the iTunes and Billboard. As of summer X5 Music is a part of Warner Music Group.
