VA - Allo Love Vol.1-4 (2011-1014)

The first of a fresh new series of digital only compilations from Wah Wah 45s, each complied by a member of the Wah Wah family. We kick things off, as you would expect, with head honcho at the label and international DJ, Dom Servini. Dom’s selection features recent gems from the Wah Wah 45s back catalogue, including music from the Colman Brothers, featuring sister Sara on vocals; a classic from last year courtesy of Stac; Hackney Colliery Band in a more mellow mood; plus recent remixes from junglist don Cyantific and our very own Part-Time Heroes for Resonators and Colman Brothers respectively.

It’s been a huge twelve months for Wah Wah 45s head honcho, producer, singer, song-writer and DJ Adam Scrimshire. Having seen his second album, ‘The Hollow’, receive the Album of the Week plaudit by Gilles Peterson on BBC6Music, he then went on to tour the UK, support The Herbaliser and Jazzanova at Koko in London, and play both Lovebox and Soundwave Croatia festivals.
What better way to continue this run than to let you into a bit of inside knowledge about what makes this music man tick. Having kicked off this new series of compilations last year with other label boss Dom Servini’s “Allo Love” selection, Volume Two gives us an insight into his partner’s muscial diet.

09. Blue Daisy - Sleeping Willow
10. Scrimshire - Emperor (Feat. Stac)

Amidst the fervent anticipation of the release of Stac’s long awaited second album (due in the spring of 2014) our favourite soulful songstress has found the time to gather together ten of her favourite pieces of contemporary music for your delectation, in the shape of the third instalment of the “Allo Love” series.
Stac is a real music lover (not a fighter) and her selection exemplifies the breadth of her knowledge, and her perfectly pitched taste. A sonorous collection, it kicks off in grandiose style with music from The London Bulgarian Choir, no less, and remains in deep musical waters with the Matthew Herbert produced Hejira, trumpeter and friend Matthew Halsall and close contemporaries, Natural Self and Blue Daisy.
You’ll also find a quartet of cherry picked Wah Wah 45s nuggets, with music from The Gene Dudley Group, Henri-Pierre Noel, Lea Lea and Scrimshire fitting perfectly into Stac’s personal soundtrack, and the latter’s cut also featuring the lady herself on fine vocal form.
Finally, Stac also appears on a stunning downtempo delight from the mysterious William Sommers with whom she duets on the delicate “Delight”, a tune that sums this compilation up perfectly. Enjoy.

Allo Love Vol.4
01. Kathrin De Boer - Folly
02. Paper Tiger - Gundam Bling
03. Izem - Quiver (Feat. Aminah Dastan)

06. Keenya - Behind Doors
07. The Gene Dudley Group - The Mall Walk
08. Dj Vadim - Raggamuffin Life (Feat. Jamalski)
09. Resonators - Family Familiar
10. Yosi Horikawa - Starlings
11. Other Echoes - Run & Hide (Feat. Lea Lea)
12. Anushka - Atom Bombs

The fourth instalment of our Allo Love series sees our queen of dark, electronic soul, Lea Lea, step up to the plate to shed some light in to her mysterious musical world. As ever with this lady, there’s nothing predictable about her selection, whether it be the rasping, bluesy vocals and moody bass of ex-Belleruche vocalist Kathrin de Boer, the deconstructed ambient offerings of Japan’s Yosi Horikawa or the up-tempo dancehall beats of DJ Vadim, Lea Lea will always keep us guessing!
Add to that the laidback soulful delights of French producer iZem, the melancholic electronica of (another erstwhile Belleruche member) Keenya and Brownswood recording artist Anushka’s haunting apocalyptic club anthem Atom Bombs, and you’ve got something of an insight in to what makes Lea Lea tick.
We also gave our very own east ender free choice of the full Wah Wah 45s back catalogue, and she didn’t disappoint with choice cuts from Resonators, Paper Tiger, Hackney Colliery Band (remixed by Scrimshire) and The Gene Dudley Group, all of which say something about this young lady’s eclectic and rather fine musical taste. Oh, and her very own vocal prowess is also on display, both on her recent album highlight, One In Three, and collaboration with Hospital Records rising star Other Echoes on the sublime Run & Hide.
