The track was written by Varner with Andrew Wansel, Warren Felder, Ronald Colson, Stephen Mostyn, Darold Brown and Ross Vanelli. It’s confirmed as the second promotional and real lead single taken from her sophomore studio album “4 Letter Word“, scheduled to be released this fall via RCA Records. About the album she said:

It’s an open letter. It’s my heart. It’s my feelings. It’s my growth. I talked about a lot of the coming-of-age things that girls go through and now I’m a young woman and going through different stuff, so you’ll hear about it

“Don’t Wanna Dance” is a sweet and smooth R&B/Soul production and it has the guest collaboration of American hip-hop recording artist A$AP Ferg. It was released on iTunes on July 15th.

The music video was premiered on VEVO on Monday September 8th.
