Salsa is primarily colombian son, itself a fusion of Spanish cancion and guitar and Afro-Cuban percussion. Salsa also occasionally incorporates elements of rock, R&B, and funk. Salsa means sauce in the Spanish language, and carries connotations of the spiciness common in Latin and Caribbean cuisine. From an early age he showed a special interest in music. His artistic and literary inclinations take shape in his youth and lead him to study Philosophy and Literature at the Autonomous University of Santo Domingo and later Guitar and Musical Theory at the National Conservatory of Music of Santo Domingo. Reaffirmed his musical vocation he decides to leave for the United States and to enroll in the Berklee College of Music of Boston, university that granted him an Honoris Causa Doctorate years later.
